Ghoti is
Patrick Gostovic of Toronto, Canada - a computer
programmer who creates his sound using technical
sensibilities but incredibly abstract ideas. His training
as a live and recorded sound engineer play a large role
in his stunning production ability. Ghoti's music
background and interests span several generations of all
types of music, which follow a weird but natural
progression directly toward techno music. Early
inspirations came to Patrick while attending raves in the
early nineties, but it wasn't until attending Plus 8
parties in Detroit and experiencing the music of Aphex
Twin, Richie Hawtin, Vapourspace
and Autechre, that Patrick was inspired to create his own
electronic beats. His music now succeeds in doing his
inspirations justice and in breaking new ground. Ghoti's
debut release on Woodwork (WOOD1206) is just the beginning of what is
sure to become a series of remarkable experiments in
sound texture and rhythm, which are the obvious strengths
to his sound. Although his productions are created almost
entirely with computer software, Ghoti has acquired
additional equipment which allows him to perform live,
fusing the elements of DJ and live PA into a unique form
of electronic expression that merges programmed music and
improvisation. |
