| This debut release by Peter Grove shows an acute
attention to detail, unleashing two aggressive techno
tracks which stand firm in mechanical minimalism but are
aimed well in the direction of dancefloor funk. a1. side effect sets a dark mood with a deep echoing bass, building through twisting synth lines and an onslaught of groovy percussion that just gets funkier as it rolls along. Erupting into a lush expanse of metallic echoes, the track builds up further, getting more repetitive with the emphasis shifting between subtle changes. This track builds an intense physical energy while twisting the listener's mind around its droning melodic center. a2. downside is an ominous gutteral sound made by a thick, dark substance. It's rhythm nearly disappears beneath a smothering ooze of grumbling bass. After a lengthly minimal introduction, downside builds into a punishing synth attack, which pounds relentlessly at an atonal melody. The song starts completely bare, getting full and intense but building in a subtle manner - creeping up on the listener. |
