| This EP is
Ghoti’s first release, with a compositional style
enhanced by timbre and texture. Creating melodic phrases
where they don’t actually exist, Ghoti emphasizes extremely slow
changes that force us to hear every detail of his
soundscapes as they mutate right before our very ears. a1. iron lung is everything its title promises - clinical, scientific, and claustrophobic. It begins as a curious rumbling beat that emerges ever so slowly into a pumping, breathing sound enclosure from which there is no release - until you notice yourself bopping about comfortably to the percussive groove as it twists its way through the curious anti-groove. b1. iron lung (peter grove remix) draws out distinct similarities and complete opposites from the original mix. This track is inundated with sounds that drop in and out only to force their way back in again. There is nothing gradual in this relentless banging assault which slaps you across the face with its pounding stomp and ferocious madness. b2. neepawa plods along in a series of ever changing delays which alter the timing perspective throughout its minimal, staccato beats. Each sound bounces directly off the next like a cascade of tumbling blocks that just happens to create a very funky rhythm. |
