WOOD1207 - Sunkissed
a1. stomping ground
b1. catalyst
release date: June 2000

At last, the long awaited follow up 12" by Sunkissed, whose last release (WOOD1203) graced playlists and DJ charts everywhere, bringing Woodwork to a new level in international recognition. This EP confirms that Sunkissed is well on the way to becoming a household name in the realm of tech house. This EP also serves as a fantastic lead up to Sunkissed's first full length CD release, which features a seventy minute live set mixed brilliantly into one long concept piece.
a1. stomping ground shows a new side of Sunkissed, with a forceful groove that storms its way forth from the speakers. Depth takes a back seat in this track which features a syncopated dancehall beat with reckless tribal percussion, ferocious bass, crazed synth stabs and a shouting vocal reminiscent of a cheering mob. The break introduces a sweet chord change that soothes the chaos until you are left grooving out to a hard house track that just won't quit. Playing this song live usually induces the type of foot-stomping, fist-in-the-air kind of ruckus that makes for a long time dance floor classic.
b1. catalyst picks up where Spellbound left off, but continues along with an unmistakable house vibe. Sweet bubbly rhythm synths build up layer after layer, topped up with luscious strings and a high pitched vocal sample that rings out over the track. Sunkissed adds a new element to his music on this EP by incorporating clever drum fills and turnarounds. Catalyst features a magical little breakdown that ends with a tight drum segue that leads back into the groove. The throbbing bass is carried along by rolling percussion and strange abrasive sounds that add that element of tech to this deep house rhapsody.
