| Sunkissed presents his greatest work to
date with this full length live opus. Sunkissed is known
for his incredibly smooth live shows that slide through
many emotions and moods with focus, depth and precision.
His unique approach allows him to recreate all of his
studio tracks live, mixing the bare elements of his songs
together with the fluidity of the best DJ - never losing
sight of the groove and always reacting to the moment at
hand. The mix starts out with 'settled' - a deep, minimal house track, which leads naturally into the disco-ish tech romp called 'the phat'. A quick bassline switch finds you in the depths of 'microdots remix' (originally written by crave) remixed here by Sunkissed in deep tech house style. The mix slowly modulates into the tech minimalism of 'embrace', which is actually a remix of 'wraparound' from WOOD1203. Then the rhythm busts into a more broken up groove called 'juice', enter a mellow jazz vocal actually performed by Sunkissed. Juice gives way to 'shimmering' and the house rhythms start up again, through 'catalyst' and into 'farewell', a deep tech track reminiscent of basic channel with a progressive house element. This is carefully interrupted by 'stomping ground' which steers the mix in the direction of hard and fast techno, first in the form of the suck-back beats of 'back flips', then from below rises 'last resort', a complete sonic departure from the melodic themes of the first few tracks. 'Take it back' resets the groove for 'side effect' and 'downside' which marks the peak of the entire mix. Deep sounds find their way again to the forefront with 'thunder' which breaks down into a gut wrenching electro stormer. From here Sunkissed mellows things out with the dub stylings of 'direction' and 'projection' which create an entirely new track when mixed together. And then, like dawn breaking, 'spellbound' rises triumphantly warming the soul and ending the mix beautifully. This release presents tech-house as seen by an artist with a broad imagination and an acute sense of flow and context. Approached as a collection of musical pieces or as one long composition, Sunkissed - live presents a refreshing look at music that is carefully constructed while being completely improvised - a work of true musicianship. |
